In history-making visit, Harris plans to tour Minnesota abortion clinic
Vice President Harris plans to travel to Minnesota on Thursday to visit a reproductive health center that provides abortions, according to a White House official, in what is believed to be the first time an American president or vice president has toured such a facility while in office.
Her visit underscores the emphasis that Democrats are placing this election year on abortion, an issue they believe heavily plays to their advantage.
Harris, the first female vice president, has become a leading voice on reproductive rights for the Biden administration since the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. Her visit to the Minneapolis-St. Paul area is part of a multi-state tour focused on reproductive rights.
At the facility in Minnesota, a state where there is broad access to abortion, Harris will walk through the facility and hear how the state has been impacted by other states that have enacted abortion restrictions, according to the White House official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to preview the trip. Harris expected to be joined by Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) and Rep. Betty McCollum (D-Minn.).
